Education
I graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Communications in 1987. I also graduated from The University of South Carolina with a M.A. in Education in 1995 with a concentration in Early Childhood\Education and Secondary Social Studies with a 3.8 GPA. I was a member of the Honor Society Kappa Alpha Psi.
Experience
I am presently a tutor for the Adult Literacy League of Central Florida. I have tutored for the League since 2013. I also tutor children (2nd thru 5th grade) from my church on Saturday afternoons. I have been tutoring at church since October 2014. Prior to tutoring I was a classroom teacher for 15 years. I taught primarily 3rd grade but I also taught 2nd grade, 5th grade Reading, 7th grade Geography and 11th grade US History. I taught in several states and was successful in helping students with learning disabilities and behavior disorders. I was able to use modes of teaching other than conventional paper and pencil methods with success. I found that movement in learning was very helpful when working with ADHD learners. i believe all children cam learn and it is up to their teacher or tutor to find the method that best suits each child. Not all children are auditory learners and if they are not it may be difficult to learn in a classroom setting. I use music, rhymes and games to help children tackle difficult concepts. I have experience with children and adults with reading difficulties due to dyslexia. As a former military wife I have taught in Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma and New York and I have combined the best practices from various districts to offer an unique way to teach reading and writing to children. I also have had experience with standard state assessment tests and provide test taking strategies to children during the tutoring process. I love seeing children succeed and when the "aha" moment occurs it is very rewarding.

Hobbies
I firmly believe all children can learn, I enjoy classroom teaching and now am finding tutoring to be very rewarding. My past classroom experience has led me to pull on several teaching methods to provide an unique way of approaching educating children. I enjoy cooking for my family and I love to swim and I try to exercise regularly. I am very active at my church and I am a Sunday School teacher. In addition, to teaching Sunday School I am the lead tutor for the church tutoring program. I have a wonderful 14 year old son who enjoys playing sports and I enjoy watching him on the court and on the field.
